Private Tutors

If it weren't for teachers, where would we all be? The education you receive from your teachers stands follows you for all of your life. Kids don't always see it this way, but when you grow to adulthood, you'll find that at least a few of your teachers return to ...

Private Tutors

A lot of people don't take enough care when they decide to hire private tutors. Private tutoring is affordable nowadays, but the price isn't the only thing to think about. There are plenty of fly-by-night private tutoring outfits that hire basically anyone. They pay low salaries and charge little, so they don't really get the best talent. Sometimes they will get bright students who just need to make a few bucks, but other times they will not be too particular about who works for them.

That is why it really pays to get private tutors based on recommendations. If you go to any medium sized or larger school districts, you are likely to know people who had to hire a tutor for their kids. Maybe it was just a matter of simple homework help, or maybe it was something more serious. Some kids have serious learning disabilities that require daily or weekly tutoring sessions. If your child is friends with one of these kids, you definitely have a good resource there to consult. Ask her where she gets her private tutoring. That is the person you want to go to.

Of course, not all private tutors can do everything. There are plenty of tutors out there who specialize in one area more than others. Almost everyone who tutors young children can teach all the basic subjects, but when it gets to high school kids sometimes knowledge drops out. There are plenty of people out there who can teach English but not math, for example. Others can teach basic English and math but can't handle AP courses.

That doesn't mean that you shouldn't consider private tutors who can't do everything you are looking for. Sometimes, specialists are very good at what they do. In that circumstance, you simply have to hire multiple tutors. Hiring more than one person to tutor your child is not unheard of, and it doesn't necessarily cost more because you pay a per hour cost anyway. If your child needs one hour of math help and two hours of English per week, for example, it's going to be three hours of tutoring no matter who you pay to do it. Sometimes, it is a treat for the child to be able to not have to work with one person all the time as well. It all depends on your kid – some are much better off working with one dedicated private tutor, while others like to switch it up.
