Algebra Tutor
Looking for math help can be embarrassing for some people. I had a lot of trouble finding a algebra tutor, but not because it was hard to find quality algebra help in my area. On the contrary, there are two very good colleges in the town I live in, and plenty of math tutors willing to pick up a few hours helping high school students do their homework. For me, however, it was difficult to admit that I needed help. None of my friends were going to algebra tutors, and I wanted to be having the same easy time that they were.
The reality was, however, that I wasn't. I would just squeak by in algebra without really getting the concepts. I would study for hours every day, feeling like I was spinning my wheels, and never fully understand what I was doing. After awhile, I had to admit to myself that algebra tutoring was the best solution. After all, all I was doing was wasting time. I knew that it would only get harder and that I needed to deal with my comprehension difficulties before I had to face greater difficulties in the future.
It turns out that getting that algebra tutor was the best decision I have ever made in my young life. Algebra tutoring was pretty painless. As a matter of fact, it actually saved me time. There was a lot that I wasn't really getting, partly because I had trouble with algebra, and partly because my book was not very well designed and my teacher was not skilled at his job. The math tutor, by working one-on-one with me twice a week, was able to explain to me some really difficult concepts that I wasn't understanding on my own. He could make stuff that would have seemed impossible easy.
I was lucky when I found my algebra help. I had a friend whose brother was a graduate student and worked as a professional algebra tutor to earn a little extra money on the side. Finding good math tutoring, however, is not always so easy. Usually the best way to find teachers is through connections. If you know someone who is smart and understand the subject well, ask them to tutor you. If you have a friend who has had problems with math the past, ask how he or she overcame it. What I began to realize as I worked with the algebra tutor was that many people go to tutors and simply don't discuss it in public. Once I began to ask my friends about it, I realized I wasn't alone.
Special Education Teacher
Teachers are amazing. I have no doubt in my mind that I could never do it, though I did consider it at one point while I was growing up. I am always grateful to my daughter’s teacher because my daughter loves her so much, and she is doing so well. Teachers need to have a lot of patience as well as a love of children. If you understand all of that, you then probably understand the heavy and unique burden that comes with being a special education teacher. These are truly some of the most dedicated teachers you will ever meet.
If you have a child with special needs, they are going to have a special education teacher when or if they go into the public school systems. Private schools have these as well. In fact, some choose private schools just because of the class size for their special needs kids. You are going to have a very close relationship with this teacher, so start right away with opening up the lines of communication. It will be essential to have a good relationship with the special education teacher because you need more input than most parents.
There are some parents of special needs children who will want to teach their children at home. You don’t have to be a special education teacher to do this with effectiveness. What it does mean is that you are going to have to know more about how to teach. These children often learn differently, or they can only learn up to a certain point, but they can learn. If you can find a special education teacher in your community, they may help you out. It may even pay off to have them consult with you on a weekly business, even if you pay for their services as a teacher for special needs kids.
A special education teacher can be a very important person in a child’s life, and it may be someone they remember forever. Children can become attached to teachers so much that they continue to communicate with them long after they have left school. When it comes to special education, these teachers are even more closely involved with their students, and that gives them a bond that most do not find. You may even find that you develop a lifelong relationship with that special education teacher that did so much for your child and your family life in general.
