Keep Fido Looking Great with Dog Grooming Supplies
I love my dogs, but I didn't love the idea of shelling out big money on a regular basis for professional services to help keep their coats looking their best. I decided that I could do the job myself at home, but quickly found that the right tools for the job would make all the difference. Since I didn't want my beloved Cocker Spaniel mistaken for a Shih Tzu, I needed to learn how to bathe, clip, and comb him just right. I found everything I needed in the high-quality dog grooming supplies that I purchased from the Internet.
A number of the relevant websites I found catered to professional groomers and veterinarians, but sold to pet owners as well. This means that I can receive top quality dog grooming supplies at reasonable prices to use on my own pets at home. Some of the websites even included advice to help me keep my dogs looking their absolute best.
I love it when someone walks up to me at the doggy park to ask which groomer I use -- because my furry babies just look so good! While I did end up spending a bit more than I intended for my first round of dog grooming supplies, the money that I am now saving by doing the washing, combing, and clipping at home is worth every penny of that initial purchase. And my dogs no longer have to survive a stressful car ride and trip to the groomer because I can manage their care at home where they are most comfortable.
Another great thing about doing the work yourself is that you can choose to invest in a whole bunch of dog grooming supplies up front, or just pick up a few here and there as you need them. When I first began caring for my pets at home, I began with the basics like shampoo and a brush. Eventually, I expanded my inventory of dog grooming supplies to include combs and clippers so that I could really do the job right.
Did you know that you can even purchase doggy cologne for your pooch? At first I laughed when I saw this, but I could definitely see where a dab behind the ears might make Fido a bit more pleasant to keep around! There are also dryers that you can purchase for this process, but I usually just let my pets run around indoors until they are completely dry.
Dog grooming supplies can save you money and give you the chance to spend even more quality time with your pet. It's easier than you think to handle this job on your own, so give it a try the next time your pooch needs some pampering!
Pole Bird Feeders
Those who love birds often have as many types of feeders and birdhouses on their property as they can. There are different types of each, and what someone wants to use may depend on where someone lives and what special circumstances with which they have to deal. This means taking some time to think about what would work best. One of the biggest problems some have is that squirrels often get into bird feeders. When this happens, those who are looking for help can find pole bird feeders to help with this problem.
What is great about pole bird feeders is that you can get the poles made in many different materials. When it comes to squirrels, you have to think about how they climb. Anything made with wood is going to be easy for them to maneuver, and that means those with squirrel problems should avoid pole bird feeders that have a pole made with wood. These may be the most common, and they may be less expensive, but they are not going to do much to keep the critters away from the feeder.
Instead, find pole bird feeders that have a metal pole, or at least ones that can have a metal pole installed. The pole should be slippery enough so that the squirrels may not have a chance to climb up. You can also try to deter them by offering squirrel feeders, but that does not always solve the problem. When the pole of the bird feeder is slippery enough, the smaller animals will not be able to get up and into the food. Not only do they eat the food, they scare off the birds that you are hoping to see in your feeder.
You can try to add other things to your pole bird feeders to keep the squirrels away, but they are not always practical. Some think a large funnel like piece of plastic will work, but there are downsides to this. These catch rain and other debris, and will have to be cleaned often. If placed downwards so that they don’t catch things, the squirrels tend to get around them. Instead of fighting with new contraptions and ideas that won’t work, try a tall pole bird feeder to see if that does not work better for you. Ask at your local home improvement store for metal replacements if you already own pole bird feeders that you would like to update.
Birding In Florida
There are several reasons why the state of Florida is so popular with bird watchers. Birding in Florida contributes to the tourism economy of the area and brings in 2 million bird watchers each year. The diversity of habitat, its mix of temperate zones and its fortunate position as a point on migration routes have resulted in the documented sightings of over 500 species of birds, many of which are rare.
Various bird watching tours and festivals are organized, all playing an important part in birding in Florida. The most famous trail was introduced to encourage conservation and to attract visitors. Named The Great Florida Birding Trail, it runs for 2,000 miles across 489 sites. There are guide books with maps and highway signs to guide visitors on the trail. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sponsored the trail. It is divided into four sections: East Florida, West Florida, Panhandle Florida, and South Florida.
The range of birds seen in the state encompasses the tiny Hummingbird, up to the majestic Bald Eagle and other hawks. Most North American birds on the east choose Florida as their winter home, just like people! There is the opportunity to see Whooping and Sandhill Cranes, Osprey, Pelicans, and Roseate Spoonbills. Birding in Florida is enjoyable throughout the year with resident birds and migratory species. The residents are spotted all of the year and migrating birds are usually seen from mid-April to mid-May or in October.
Everyone can get involved with this fascinating hobby. Both state residents and non-residents can participate in Wings Over Florida, a program that awards people according to the number of different species they observe. The idea is to identify as many native birds as possible and win a certificate at five different levels. The first level is for 50 birds and the last level is for 350. This brings the competitive spirit to birding in Florida. The state bird, the Northern Mockingbird may appear on the list.
Florida is to be commended in its work towards conserving bird species and encouraging residents and visitors to celebrate the wide range of bird life. There are several refuges and sanctuaries to this end, including Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, Everglades National Park, and Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, Indian Shores. Wherever bird watchers go, they are bound to tick off lots of species. The steady flow of visitors to spot the birds helps the refuges and parks to continue in their good work.
Dog Rescue Groups
My mom has always said that everyone needs a cause. In the case of my girlfriend, it is animal rescue groups. I had never even really thought about dog rescue groups until we got involved together. I knew that animals were sometimes put down because there was no one to adopt them, but I didn't realize how common of a problem it is. Dog rescue groups are there to draw attention to the plight of unwanted and abused dogs. Some of the things that I've learned from getting involved in one have been quite disturbing.
Still, there are some uplifting aspects of animal rescue groups as well. First of all, you get to make life better for dogs and other critters. A lot of people don't think about the plight of pets in this country, but it can be pretty serious. A lot of dogs out there are simply not taken care of. People get them because they think they will be entertaining only to abandon them when they realize how much work it is to raise a dog. Other times, people treat them as objects, feeling free to abuse them as a way to get out aggression or anger. In dog rescue groups, you take these dogs off of the streets and out of abusive homes and, hopefully, put them into a safe and supportive environment. Although the dogs cannot thank you, you know they would if they could.
Another great thing about dog rescue groups is the people that you meet. Dog lovers are a cool bunch of folks. They are friendly, outgoing, and very sociable. It is great to get to know people in your community who really care about making the world a better place. There is no better place to make friends then volunteering for a dog rescue group.
You have to be careful when selecting dog rescue groups, however, because not all of them are the same. You really need to be part of a group that is well organized and that receives adequate funds. Honestly, there is nothing more frustrated than trying to rescue dogs only to find yourself unable to support them. Badly run dog rescue groups are little better than the situations the dogs were in before they got rescued. Use your instincts and trust your judgment. If a group looks good, it probably is. If a group seems to not have its act together, however, find one that does.
